Poppies took control of this Hampshire Senior Cup 1st Round tie from kick off, and to be honest could have scored a whole hatful more.
Dance nearly grabbed the opener just two minutes in when his surging run was stopped by a fine tackle, but just a couple of minutes later Baggs managed to break through to slot the ball home from close range to open our account.
In almost our next attack Baggs' determination picked up the ball on the byline and his cross was driven goalwards by Dance only to see his effort deflected away for a corner. It was from the following corner that everybody missed it- except Lamin at the far post. He crashed one home off the crossbar to double our lead.
On the half hour it looked like we had further extended our lead when a Langrish cross was rifled home by Baggs only for his attempt to be rule out for offside, a decision that did look a little harsh. A couple of minutes later he was again in front of goal, and in a one on one his effort was just wide of the mark. The keeper doing well to give a small target.
Into the second half we continued to move the ball around the windswept Gang Warily ground and on 53 Dance was brought down around 25 yards out and Rides' powerful free kick flew just wide of the target
Around the hour mark Baggs had another attempt that the keeper did well to smother, and then the frame of the goal came to our hosts' rescue when Langrish hit the foot of the post following good approach play.
The home 'keeper was certainly kept busy, indeed if it had not been for him Leigh would have scored on 68 when his powerful downward header was somehow turned round the post, similar to that Gordon Banks save in the World Cup all those years ago, OK so I exaggerate a bit, but only a little bit!
But he was to be caught out again though- when on 73 Baggs converted again from close range with the keeper palming the effort into the far corner.
We continued to pres forward with the home defence under pressure for long periods, and with the final whistle looming, Leigh's low drive was inches off target, and he was also denied when connecting with Adie's cross. The final action of the game coming when Rich had a shot that cannoned back off an upright and Baggs- looking for a hat-trick; saw his shot turned away for a corner.
All in all a good performance, but there was a downside- some five cautions that may come back to haunt some of the players later on..............
