This was a game that could be typically described as a game of two halves, and in true fashion, it was a good job we did play so well in the first half as in the second we took our foot off the pedal and to a certain extent were lucky not to concede more than the one goal.
The game was played in almost sweltering conditions- not unlike the start of the season, the trees surrounding Follands Park certainly focussed the sun’s energy!
Anyway, we started with terrific pace and went one up on seven minutes when Lamin converted a corner with a free header, on the half hour he was able to repeat the feat in almost identical fashion, sandwiching these headers Scott was able to convert a free kick hoisted into the area and flicked on by Rich. Three up within half an hour and the game was over as a contest.
Just five minutes later Strongy was able to make the most of the fact that Aero’s couldn’t clear a corner and was able to slip the ball home from around seven yards out. During the second half he had a further couple of chances that on another day would have fallen better for the striker.
Lamin almost completed a memorable hat-trick on 38, with yet another free header from a corner, but unfortunately it rattled the bar. However had it been a couple iof inches lower it would have gone in- but the ref had spotted an infringement so wouldn’t have stood anyway.
On the stroke of half time following a goalmouth scramble from another set piece, Dance managed to force a half save from the keeper, but Leo was quickly in on the loose ball to ram it in.
The second half saw our hosts come more into the game and had a chance on 55 minutes but Jay was up to it and dropped on the ball on the line to prevent a goal. However a needless penalty was conceded on 72 minutes and Lock converted. At the second time of asking mark you; not sure why a re-take was needed though (Jay stopped that one!). This was to prove a consolation goal, as although they huffed and puffed a bit we still had control of a game that gradually slowed down and was not far off walking pace at the end.
