This was a fairly competitive game but neither keeper was really tested although the visiting custodian did have more to do and probably helped earn his side a share of the points; overall nil nil is probably a fair reflection of the game.
Kicking towards the Winton End with a ferocious wind behind them, the Poppies had several opportunities to get on the score sheet and with just seven minutes gone Jack forced his way through, and following a handball by an Alton defender, Tim’s free kick from the edge of the box curled into the goalmouth that the keeper did well to save.
In the 25th minute Dance had a good chance after some fine build up play Poppies having plenty of players in attacking positions the quality in the final third was somewhat lacking.
It was always going to be a hard call for man of the match but Rich picks up the award for a fine role in the middle of the park.
Just after the hour mark Jack showed his individual flair by riding several somewhat crude challenges and got his cross in from the by-line but the ball wouldn’t come down fast enough for anyone to get a shot in.
