In a match severely affected by a cold blustering wind chances were far and few between for either side. Bournemouth kicked off against said wind and almost immediately gave away a corner which was easily dealt with by the defence. Poppies looked a bit jittery for the first twenty minutes but then settled down and can count themselves unfortunate not to have gone through on the day in normal time. This was due in part to some wayward finishing by the Synners- Abel, Gardner and Crossen not helped by having the wind at their backs but Frampton was largely untroubled.
On the half hour a slip by Wray almost let in Pinder who crossed but neither Ewen or Saadi was able to get on the end of it, and in the 42nd minute Hogan almost worked an opening on the left flank but ran out of space being closed down by three defenders.
With the wind at the visitors back in the second period and a long range Saadi effort flew just over the bar and on 48 Gardner had a shot from Bettson’s pass that Frampton was able to hold easily. A rasping drive from Saadi on 68 minutes went just wide of the left hand upright and a few minutes later Blake scrambled the ball off the line to keep the game goalless.
Bournemouth began to get on top and it looked like only a matter of time before a goal would come their way. Alas it was not to be even in the final minute when a cross from Cream picked out Ingram in front of goal, but he directed his header straight into the arms of Moody.
Within moments of extra time starting Taylor (on for Saadi) had a fierce shot well parried by Moody- and at the other end Synners’ leading scorer Earl have a shot blocked by the Poppies defence. The two sides exchanged long range shots as the stalemate continued.
A penetrating run from Cream saw him get into a good position but his effort flashed wide of the upright, and in the scramble afterwards the ball fell to Daysh who could only see his effort scooped up safely by Moody. There were tired legs all round at the end, and with no goals it’s all to play for in the replay.
